A Series of Successes and Catch the SRC Around Town
2nd Annual Riparian Planting Day

The 2nd Annual Riparian Planting Day was an Incredible Success!
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, over 75 volunteers planted over 250 trees on Montana Creek in Talkeetna. The Susitna River Coalition, and partners the Mat-Su Borough, ADFG, Knik Tribal Council, the Mat-Su Salmon Habitat Partnership, Mat-Su Health Foundation, USFWS, and Trout Unlimited Alaska hosted this annual event.
Thank you to everyone that came out to support healthy habitat and salmon in our watershed. We can't wait to see you next year!
A Victory for D1 Lands

D1 Protections were put in place under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). These protections prohibit mineral entry and oil and gas development on designated BLM lands.
With many acres of D1 designated lands existing within our watershed-- including land near the proposed Susitna-Watana Dam Site and West Susitna Industrial Corridor-- the SRC is concerned about the repercussions of lifting protections on intact fish and wildlife habitat and hunting and fishing access.
In Late June, thanks to the work of so many organizations and individuals, the Bureau of Land Management opted to keep D1 protections in place. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all that took part in this very important process. It is time to celebrate this huge success!
